Argentina Trip – Update #3
It is now in the wee hours of Tuesday morning and we have packed and are ready to begin the trip back to Tucson tomorrow morning. We will leave for the city of Buenos Aires around 10:00 a.m. and ultimately arrive back in Tucson around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. It will be another very long trip; however, it is always exciting to return home to see our family and our TBT family.
The last couple of days have been very busy and amazing. We have been able to speak multiple times in the conference. James and Amy Greenwood are doing a fabulous job and it has been quite impressive to witness all that they have accomplished with God’s great blessings. On Sunday we had a record attendance in church (106) between their two services. The storefront that has been rented cannot accommodate all of their members and visitors so they have to have two identical services on Sunday. This is a GREAT problem to have and now we need to see what can be done to help the Greenwoods get into a different building where they can have everyone together.
It is also refreshing to hear the Greenwoods discuss their vision for the future. They are not content to rest on the fact that a church has been established and is growing. There are discipleship, music, and space needs right now. The vision to begin a Christian school is awesome and a great possibility – if a building can be found.
There are several stories that can be told. Carlos has his own business – he handcrafts various trinkets, pins, and medallions; his wife paints them. He and his wife are responsible for the “Mary Kay” pins that are used in the States. Each one is individually handpainted. Carlos heard that I liked elephants, so on Monday night he gave me a small elephant that he had handcrafted and silver-plated that day. It will always hold a special place. He is a hard working man, training to be a deacon, and very faithful in the church. His wife and three daughters were faithful at every service.
One family brought eleven visitors to the conference! One 20 year old young man talked with me about becoming a missionary. Although the conference was not evangelistic, there are now several contacts for the Greenwoods with all of the visitors that attended. We were certainly able to weave the Gospel message into the services.
I look forward to sharing with the TBT family more of our trip once we return. This has certainly been a wonderful opportunity to see how a missionary should do it and is doing it. The TBT family can be assured that their prayers and financial support are not being wasted! Thank you Greenwoods and we look forward to our teens coming to visit in the near future.
