Irony: Enjoy the Way Things Are
“What?” you say. I say, learn to enjoy things just the way they are. I know it sounds like just the opposite of everything that I have written up until now, but it is not.
“How can you say that, Pastor A? First you say that I must enjoy my life and everything in it and if I don’t, then I need to change it. Then when I decide to change my life because I don’t enjoy it, you tell me that I am supposed to enjoy it just the way it is! Will you make up your mind?”
I am not writing that things should stay the way they are. I am just saying you should learn to enjoy the way things are while you are in the process of changing them.
Do not become so frustrated by the idea of changing your life so you can enjoy it more, that you forget to enjoy it right now. God has a purpose for your life today; the problem, most people are not looking for God’s will for their life. Your life is not about the destination; it is about the journey. The way things are right now for you is exactly the way it needs to be for you.
You might not enjoy things the way they are at the moment, but you are there for a reason. Most of your life experiences will move you onto a path of growth and learning. You will grow and if you will allow God to work on you, you will come forth as a different and stronger person.
That is what I mean when I say you are where you need to be. The struggles, turmoils, experiences, etc. that you are going through will move you to a different position in life. You will be taught, regardless of the struggle, whatever is happening to me is happening for a reason. It is there to teach me a lesson. It is a lesson I need to learn to grow to the next level. So I have learned to enjoy and grow through the experience in anticipation of the next level in my life.
You may be having some tough times. I know there are many people that are struggling financially, emotionally, physically, and with family. While these tough times certainly are not fun or enjoyable, there is always a lesson to be learned. Enjoy the idea you are going to be better for having survived the experience you are currently growing through.
While that may not seem like much consolation, that may be all you get. Besides, when things are tough, just remember one of the most oft repeated lines in our Bible: “And it came to pass.” That is good news! It did not come to stay; it came to pass.
And do not ever say anything irresponsible like, “It can’t get any worse than this.” Trust me. It can always get worse! Regardless of what you are going through, stop and enjoy it. Enjoy is for the simple reason that it is not worse!
Other reasons to enjoy where you are are all of those reasons I mentioned previously about what happens when you do not enjoy your life. You know you do not want any of those things to happen, so do not fall victim to whining and complaining. Instead… enjoy today!
Don’t try today; DO today!
